Seeking research assistants for fall 2012
The Center for Diabetes Research and Policy (CDRP) at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) is currently hiring research assistants to work during the fall 2012 semester. CDRP research assistants will work at the Institute for Science, Law and Technology at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law and will work with faculty and students from the Health and Disability Law Clinic at the Law Offices of Chicago-Kent College of Law. Research assistants will be responsible for conducting research on a variety of topics, drafting memoranda and contributing to grant projects.
Research assistants will support the legal and policy work of the CDRP. Research assistants will research and write memos on a number of legal topics and policy issues relating to diabetes and other chronic health conditions. Research assistants will work on an interdisciplinary project addressing the issue of improving the chronic health of youth. Research assistants will work with attorneys who provide pro bono legal representation for individuals or groups of individuals who are denied access to medical treatment or insurance coverage for diabetes and diabetes-related illnesses or who face discrimination in a number of contexts, including school, daycare, employment and the criminal justice system. The research assistants may contribute to the development of recommendations concerning access to treatment, insurance coverage and related government benefits. Research assistants may also examine the conflicts that arise among the competing interests of diabetes researchers, research institutions, patients, pharmaceutical companies, and the public health community.
