Sandra P. Zemm Labor Law Prize 2012 winner announced

It gives us great pleasure to announce that Patrick Milott has been awarded the 2012 Sandra P. Zemm Labor Law Prize. The prize was established in 2009 at Chicago-Kent by the law firm of Seyfarth Shaw to honor the memory of Sandra P. Zemm, who died in September 2008 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

The Zemm Prize is awarded each year to a graduating senior in the certificate program who exemplifies the qualities that Ms. Zemm possessed: "a commitment to pursue a career in labor and employment law, a pioneer spirit and willingness to take the initiative wherever possible, and a gracious and generous attitude toward helping those in need." Recipients are selected by the Chicago-Kent faculty who teach in the law school's program in labor and employment law.

Patrick has amply demonstrated a commitment to a career in labor and employment law, a pioneer spirit, and concern for those in need. Patrick earned a bachelor of science degree in philosophy from Illinois State University, where he was an Academic All-American and recipient of a summer research grant. At Chicago-Kent, Patrick's achievements have been significant and of astonishing variety. In addition to numerous appearances on the Dean's List, he managed to study abroad in China, earn the Certificate in Labor and Employment Law, and earn the Dean's Distinguished Public Service Award. His service to the school includes activities ranging from serving as vice president of Lambdas to serving as a teaching assistant for Civil Procedure. His community service covers an even broader range, from volunteering at Legal Aid through interning for the United States Navy, for the Illinois Department of Labor, and for the Governor's Office of General Counsel. Patrick was also a member of the Labor and Employment trial team, representing Chicago-Kent in the ABA Labor and Employment Law regional competition, and authored an article for Professor Henry Perritt's 2011 Employment Update Avoiding Corporate Liability Under International Law in Labor Disputes.
