Invitation to join the Environmental Law Moot Court Team

Are you interested in environmental law? Do you want to participate in a challenging but rewarding experience that will offer you the opportunity to hone your legal writing and oral argument skills? If so, you are invited to apply for a position on Chicago-Kent's 2011-12 National Environmental Law Moot Court Team. The team will consist of three students (second and third year only) who will represent Chicago-Kent at the nation's premier environmental law moot court competition: Pace National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition, which draws students from more than 70 law schools around the country. Chicago-Kent has participated in this event for more than 10 years, reaching the quarterfinals several times and winning the Best Oralist award in 2007. You can be a part of this tradition, but you have to get your application in by September 6, 2011.

The 2012 Pace Law School National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition will be held February 23-25, 2012, in White Plains, N.Y. (Travel expenses will be paid by Chicago-Kent.) The moot court problem will be available on or around October 3, the brief is due November 29, and oral argument practices begin after the holidays in January. During brief-writing and oral argument preparation periods, you should be prepared to spend approximately six to 10 hours per week on this project.

If you are interested in participating, please email the following information to team coaches Kristin Munsch (kcmunsch@yahoo.com) and Bess Schenkier (bschenkier@clclaw.org) no later than Tuesday, September 6:

  1. Application letter, including:
    • Name and email address of your first-year legal writing instructor or, if unavailable, another reference
    • Fall semester class schedule
    • If applicable, work schedule

    • Other relevant environmental experience
    • Other relevant oral or written competition experience
    • Reason for your interest in being on this moot court team
  2. Résumé
  3. Brief-writing sample (10 pages max.)

Team interviews will be held during the week of September 6, 2011. Please contact co-coaches Kristin Munsch (312-814-8496 or kcmunsch@yahoo.com) or Bess Schenkier (312-726-2938 or bschenkier@clclaw.org) if you have any questions.
