Upcoming professional development programs: Parenting and Eldercare

IIT faculty and staff: Join your colleagues for some personal development opportunities offered at the Downtown Campus through our Employee Assistance Program, Perspectives. Bring your lunch while Human Resources provides healthy fruit and beverages. Registration required.


As a parent, do you ever wonder which battles you should fight with your children and which ones you should let go? Do you find yourself in power struggles and wonder how to get out? Are you sometimes overwhelmed with being a single parent?†This seminar identifies general issues regarding parenting, communication, expectations, age-appropriate development and decision-making. The presenter will share techniques for dealing with behavior problems and consequences with young children, school age children and adolescents.


Regina E. Higgin, master's in counseling and guidance (M.A.) and certified employee assistance professional (CEAP), joined Perspectives Ltd. in 1989 after serving as an account manager, trainer and regional manager for a large national EAP.†She provides seminars on a wide variety of topics, including stress management, communication, all types of parenting issues, dealing with difficult employees/people, obtaining balance in your life, dealing with negativity, dealing with organizational change, and many others.

This seminar will discuss the changing demographics of the population and the losses and the needs encountered during the aging process. Participants will learn more about the services available to the elderly, their family members and the individuals who take on the role of caretaker.


Cheryl Gandolfi, licensed clinical social worker, has worked in the employee assistance program field for 16 years and is IIT/IITRIís account manager with Perspectives. She has facilitated numerous on-site seminars/trainings at client organizations.†The seminars cover a wide range of topics including communication, conflict management, coping with difficult people, stress management, eldercare, etc.†

Human Resources hours at the Downtown Campus

Human Resources holds office hours each Tuesday at the Downtown Campus. You can expect to find an HR professional on site from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The schedule of which HR staff member will be available on a given date is posted on the bulletin board outside the staff lounge on the third floor. Feel free to stop by room 654 for answers to any questions and to pick up or drop off benefits forms. If you prefer, call ext. 7-3318 to set up an appointment in advance or to arrange a different meeting time.
