Dear Student Organization Presidents,
We're writing to let you know about the procedures for placing announcements in Chicago-Kent’s online newsletter, The Record. Each student organization is responsible for posting its own announcements to the Web-based Record using a template document. The Center for Law and Computers provides training for student organization members on how to use the template and post announcements to the Web.
This year, training sessions will be offered on:
- Tuesday, September 22 -- 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., lab
760
- Thursday, September 24 -- 2 to 4 p.m., lab 760
To participate in one of the training sessions above,
you must sign up no later than Thursday, September 24, at noon (ORIGINAL DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED). Signup will be in the CLC's Help Desk area (room 540).
Prior to attending a training session, each student must
have a valid WEB SERVER ACCOUNT (i.e., a username
and password to access the Web server). Please note that
your Web server account will have its own username and password,
which are distinct from your Chicago-Kent network username
and password.
If you do not currently have an account for the Web server,
simply fill out the online registration form at http://www.kentlaw.edu/clc/webinfo/webregform.shtml
as soon as possible, but no later than the training registration
deadline of Friday, September 18. The CLC's Web server administrator,
Larry Adamiec (ladamiec@kentlaw.edu,
312-906-5301), will create the account and set up your
server access privileges.
If your organization already has members who maintain your organization's Web pages on the Chicago-Kent site, but they need advice about posting your Record announcements, they would only need to contact the Help Desk (e-mail HELPDESK@kentlaw.edu) to learn where the Record template can be found on the Web server and to discuss file naming conventions and the upload procedure for your organization.
For assistance in posting Record announcements
before the training sessions: You may submit your organization's
complete Record announcements to the Office of Public
Affairs for posting online. Just e-mail your announcements
to RECORD@kentlaw.edu
by 5 p.m. on Wednesdays. Student organization announcements
submitted in this manner will be compiled by the Office
of Public Affairs on one general student organization Record
page. Public Affairs will continue to compile full Record announcements for student organizations up to and including
the October 5 issue.
Beginning with the October 12 Record issue:
Each student organization will assume responsibility for
posting its own announcements, and Public Affairs will begin
posting only headlines with links to student organization
Record pages. Please note that the deadline for submitting
your headlines for the October 12 issue is Thursday, October
8, at noon. The main Record headline page will include
a link to your organization's page only if your organization
submits headlines for a particular week.
It is critical that you comply with the deadlines: To post
an announcement to the Record for any given week,
e-mail short, descriptive headlines corresponding to your
announcements to RECORD@kentlaw.edu
by noon the preceding Thursday, and make sure your organization's
actual announcement page has been uploaded to the Web server
by noon the preceding Friday. You can always find general
information about the Record by clicking the "About
The Record" link at the top of any Record
page. (The headline page is at www.kentlaw.edu/record/).
We look forward to your postings about events and activities.
If you have any questions about submitting headlines to
the Record, please e-mail the Record editor at RECORD@kentlaw.edu. For questions about training,
contact the Help Desk at HELPDESK@kentlaw.edu
or 312-906-5300.
Sincerely,
Geneva Reed
