Student Organization Headlines

Headlines for the Week of November 28, 2011

Student Bar Association

Here are the minutes from the SBA General Assembly meeting held Sunday, November 20. We discussed and approved the following:

  1. The Student Bar Association Book Scholarship was just approved yesterday. Starting in the spring, ten students in the 2L, 3L, or 4L class will be able to apply for a $500 book scholarship. The scholarship is available to Kent students who do not receive a Kent scholarship or who lost their original scholarship. They must demonstrate a commitment to leadership at school and community involvement. There is no GPA requirement.
  2. We are also launching a new program called C-K Connects. In an effort to help Chicago-Kent students connect with the legal community in the Chicago area in a more meaningful way, the SBA Career Development Committee is in the process of compiling a comprehensive database of the networking events, conferences, and dinners, etc. taking place in Chicago, in the hopes of helping to put forth a coordinated effort to get students to attend these kinds of events en mass. There is almost always some sort of legal event taking place in Chicago, yet many students are unable to attend because of excessive cost, not knowing anyone, or not knowing about the event. By creating sign-up sheets for each of these events, students could go with their friends in a low-pressure social environment to learn and to meet people who are already interested in the things they are interested in.
