March 20: Discussion on "Ag Gag" Legislation
Date: Tuesday, March 20
Time: Noon to 1 p.m.
Come hear several representatives from Mercy for Animals speak on proposed state "Ag Gag" legislation that would outlaw undercover investigations that expose abuses on factory farms. This legislation has been introduced this year in nine states, including Illinois. Such laws, known as "ag gag laws" because of the restraints they place on free speech about agribusiness, make it a crime to take photos or video on a factory farm without the written permission of the owner. The factory farming lobby has advocated these laws as a means of keeping the public in the dark about how its food is produced. This program will be of interest to anyone interested in animal or environmental law, or the First Amendment and other constitutional issues.
Lunch will be provided! Please RSVP to email@example.com. For more information please see http://studentorgs.kentlaw.edu/saldf.
