October 21: "Exploring Careers in Criminal Prosecution"

On Tuesday, October 21, the Criminal Law Society and Career Services Office welcome prosecutors from the Cook County State's Attorney Office and the U.S. Attorney's Office. The prosecutors will share their experiences and provide information about opportunities for law students and graduates in their respective offices. There will also be a Q&A session where students can ask questions about prosecution work, how to prepare to be a prosecutor, the life of a prosecutor, etc. Join us!
November 6: "An Evening with Anita Alvarez: A Close-Up Look at the Criminal Law Profession"
Sign-in begins at 5:30 p.m.
The Criminal Law Society will host Cook County's States Attorney Anita Alvarez. The event will begin with Ms. Alvarez talking about her organization, life as a prosecutor, and barriers that a Hispanic woman faced in the law field. She will then answer questions that students had previously written for a speaker to ask her. After this portion, there will be food and drinks, and Ms. Alvarez, along with attorneys from the criminal law community, will be available to talk.

October 28: Fall Career Panel and Networking Reception
Join the Chicago-Kent Environmental Law Society on Tuesday, October 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. for its Fall Career Panel and Networking Reception. A panel of Chicago-Kent alumni will share their experiences and discuss how they succeeded in practicing environmental law.
At 7 p.m., following the panel discussion, there will be a networking reception where alumni can reconnect with old friends, network with colleagues in their practice area. and lend their expertise to current students studying environmental law. Current students and alumni are welcome to attend!

National Lawyers Guild Chicago-Kent Chapter
October 21: Panel on "Ferguson and Police Militarization"
The National Lawyers Guild (NLG) Chicago-Kent Chapter will host a panel on "Ferguson and Police Militarization" on Tuesday, October 21, at noon in room 590. (Please note room change.)
Speakers will include Sheila Bedi, a professor at Northwestern School of Law with a research focus on mass imprisonment; Max Suchan, a DePaul student who was arrested in Ferguson while volunteering as a legal observer; David Warnock, a Chicago-Kent student who will speak about police militarization from a veteran's perspective; and a representative speaker from the grassroots organization We Charge Genocide.
There will be a Q&A after the panel, and lunch from "I Dream of Falafel" will be served! Co-sponsors of the panel include the Black Law Students Association (BLSA), the Hispanic-Latino Law Students Association (HLLSA), and the American Constitution Society (ACS).
Student Animal Legal Defense Fund
October 30: SALDF Halloween Pet Photo Contest
The Student Animal Legal Defense Fund is excited to announce the Halloween Pet Photo Contest. Students and faculty can submit a photo of their furry friend in costume to email@example.com by Monday, October 27, at 5 p.m.
Furry friend-less? You can help your favorite win the contest by voting. Each vote costs $1, and all proceeds go to a local rescue/shelter. Voting will take place on Thursday, October 30, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the third floor of the Spak. For questions, email Amber Hunt at firstname.lastname@example.org.
