Child and Family Law Society

November 11: Child and Family Law Society attorney panel

Please join us on November 11 at 12:30 p.m. in room 270 for our attorney panel! The panel will offer students the opportunity to receive advice and hear about work environments and the experiences of practicing family law attorneys.

This is a great opportunity to meet and network with attorneys and fellow students. Food and beverages will be provided. We hope to see you all there!

 


Criminal Law Society

November 6: "An Evening with Anita Alvarez: A Close-Up Look at the Criminal Law Profession"

Sign-in begins at 5:30 p.m.

The Criminal Law Society will host Cook County's States Attorney Anita Alvarez. The event will begin with Ms. Alvarez talking about her organization, life as a prosecutor, and barriers that a Hispanic woman faced in the law field. She will then answer questions that students had previously written for a speaker to ask her. After this portion, there will be food and drinks, and Ms. Alvarez, along with attorneys from the criminal law community, will be available to talk.

Intellectual Property Law Society

November 4: "Copyright Law and the Fashion Industry"

IPLS will be hosting Bart Lazar, a partner at Seyfarth Shaw, to give a short presentation about a TED talk focused on copyright law in the fashion industry on Tuesday, November 4, at noon in room 170. Lunch will be served.

November 5: "Section 101 Patent Eligibility: The New World of Patentable Subject Matter"

K&L Gates LLP, Chicago-Kent's Program in Intellectual Property Law, and the Chicago-Kent Intellectual Property Law Society are cosponsoring a program on the current state of patent prosecution and litigation under 35 U.S. Code § 101. The program runs from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5, with a reception to follow (4:30 to 6 p.m.) in the front lobby. The program is eligible for IL MCLE credit. Register online ($20 general; no charge for Chicago-area law students or Chicago-Kent faculty).

 


Justinian Society

November 10: Showing of "My Cousin Vinny"

Come join the Justinian Society for a showing of "My Cousin Vinny"! On November 10, from 5 to 9 p.m., come to the auditorium for snacks, refreshments and the must-see classic for every law student!

 


Student Animal Legal Defense Fund

November 4: Screening of the documentary "PAW Project"

On November 4, from 6 to 7:15 p.m. in room 590, SALDF will be hosting a screening of the documentary "PAW Project."

The movie aims to educate the public about the painful and crippling effects of feline declawing, to promote animal welfare through the abolition of the practice of declaw surgery, and to rehabilitate cats that have been declawed.

There will be food and a champagne toast "to cats with claws"!
