Diversity Thursday Series

The SBA, along with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Multicultural Affairs and Professional Development and various student organizations, is introducing a "Diversity Thursday" series in an effort to celebrate the different cultures here at Chicago-Kent. Look out for our fliers!


Art and Cultural Property Law Society

March 24: Speaker event with Marci Rolnik Walker, legal director of the Lawyers for the Creative Arts

The ACPLS will be hosting Marci Rolnik Walker, legal director of the Lawyers for the Creative Arts, on March 24 from noon to 1 p.m. in room 165. She will be giving a 45-minute talk on the Illinois Consignment of Art Act and protecting rights in visual artwork, followed by a 15-minute Q&A session at the end. Lunch will be provided.

Ms. Walker has advised clients in all areas of art and entertainment, including intellectual property protection for motion pictures, visual arts, music, dance and literary works. She serves as chairman of the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts Division of the ABA Forum on the Entertainment and Sports Industries and formerly chaired the Chicago Bar Association's Media and Entertainment Committee, the Intellectual Property Committee of College Art Association, and the Fiscal Sponsorship Committee of Independent Features Project Midwest (IFP/ Chicago). 

April 2: ACPLS will be hosting the Student Art Fair

The ACPLS will be hosting the Student Art Fair on Thursday, April 2. Set-up will begin at 3 p.m. in the lobby and students are welcome to stop by and view anytime thereafter. Reception will begin at 5 p.m. in the lobby. 

If you intend to participate in the Art Fair, please submit (to acpls@kentlaw.iit.edu) the following information at your earliest convenience, but no later than Friday, March 27: 

  • The format of the piece(s) you will be submitting (ie,. photography, paint, sculpture, etc.)
  • The name of your piece(s) - if you have one
  • The approximate size of your piece(s), so that we are able to provide an appropriate viewing platform for your work and are able to accommodate space for everyone

Child and Family Law Society

March 25: CFLS alumi networking event

CFLS Alumni Networking Event on Wednesday, March 25, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm in the lobby. Food & drinks will be served. Hope to see you all there!


Kent Justice Foundation

April 10: Kent Justice Foundation Spring Auction

The Kent Justice Foundation Spring Auction is scheduled for Friday, April 10, 2015 beginning at 5:30 p.m.! Come bid on dinners with professors, attorneys and judges; restaurant and retail gift cards; gym memberships; and more! There will be plenty of food and drinks to enjoy, and all funds raised help support students pursuing unpaid legal public interest internships this summer. And you can watch Judge Erickson in his auctioneer debut during the live auction!  

Tickets will be on sale Monday, April 6, to Friday, April 10 for $10, or you can get them for $15 at the door. Times to follow. Please join us -- all are welcome! 


Public Interest Resource Center

April 23: Public Interest Awards Night deadline approaching soon

This year the Public Interest Awards Night will take place on April 23 at 5 p.m. The two awards available are the Chicago-Kent Certificate of Service and the Dean's Distinguished Public Service Award. The first award is for students who have volunteered at least 50 hours, whereas the second award is for students who have totaled at least 250 hours. The deadline to submit volunteer hours for a certificate is April 7, 2015, at 5 p.m. To register with PIRC and/or to submit volunteer hours, please visit the Public Interest Resource Center's webpage at PIRC. Sports and Entertainment Law Society and the Labor and Employment Law Society

March 31: Rumble to Recognition

The Sports and Entertainment Law Society and the Labor and Employment Law Society will be hosting the "Rumble to Recognition: A Debate on the Unionization of Northwestern’s Football Players" between Professor César Rosado Marzán and Professor Martin Malin.  The debate will be held on Tuesday, March 31, from noon to 1 p.m. in room C20.  Food will be served.  For more information, contact sdudzins@kentlaw.iit.edu.


Trial Advocacy Team

April 8: Trial team tryouts

Interested in receiving individual instruction on trial skills, making invaluable career connections with practicing attorneys, and having tons of FUN? Join Chicago-Kent's nationally ranked trial team! Tryouts are open to 1Ls and 2Ls and will be held Wednesday, April 8, beginning at 5 p.m. in Marovitz Courtroom. Informational packets with everything you need to know will be available starting Wednesday, March 24, on the third floor outside the Spak, in the Marovitz Courtroom, and outside Judge Erickson's office (room 705).
