January 30: A Constitutional Right to Work? Debate on Compelled Union Dues

Should a worker have to pay fees even if he does not wish to be part of a public sector union? On one hand, the union is representing his rights and is benefiting from their negotiations with the employer. On the other, the First Amendment's freedom of speech and association clauses may prevent the government from forcing individuals to be a part of a private organization. The U.S. Supreme Court will hear the question in Janus v. AFSCME.

Featuring Jacob Huebert of the Liberty Justice Center and co-counsel to the plaintiff in Janus and Professor César Rosado Marzán of Chicago-Kent. Free food.

Co-sponsored by the Federalist Society, Labor and Employment Law Society and the American Constitution Society.

When: Tuesday, January 30
Time: 4 p.m.
Where: Room 520
