Student Bar Associaton and National Lawyers Guild

March 5 to 9: National Lawyers Guild's "Week Againist Mass Incarceration"

March 5 to 9 is the National Lawyers Guild's "Week Against Mass Incarceration" or "WAMI." Read more about WAMI here. This year's focus is Mass Incarceration and Immigration. NLG has planned the following events:

March 5: Panel on Chicago's "Gang Database" and deportations

Free pizza and a panel on Chicago's "Gang Database" and deportations. Panelists include members of Black Youth Project, Organized Communities Against Deportations, and the MacArthur Foundation. 

When: Monday, March 5
Time: 6 p.m.
Location: Auditorium

March 6: Bake sale and raffle

Bake sale and raffle with proceeds going to Organized Communities Against Deportations. NLG will raffle original prints created by Ricardo Levins Morales. See the prints here!

Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Location: Outside the Spaketeria

March 7: First Defense Legal Aid training

First Defense Legal Aid training on Station House Defense. This training is for 711-eligible students only. Training is free and offers a chance to use your 711 license to defend indigent suspects' Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination in Chicago Police stations!

February 21: Black Letter Law guest panel and screening of "Marshall"

Who: All Chicago-Kent students, alumni, faculty and staff (feel free to invite outside guests!)
What: Black Letter Law guest panel amd screening of "Marshall"
When: Wednesday, February 21, reception starts at 5:30 p.m. followed by the panel discussion and screening of "Marshall"
Where: First-floor lobby and Ogilvie Auditorium

Irish American Law Student Association

February 22: The IALSA will be hosting a Judges Night

The IALSA will be hosting a Judges Night Thursday, February 22, at 5 p.m. in Morris Hall. There will be a reception with food, beer and wine. The program will include a panel discussion and questions from the audience. The judges who have confirmed they are coming are the Honorable John Callahan, the Honorable Christopher Lawler, the Honorable Peggy Chiampas, the Honorable Jim O'Hara, the Honorable Karen O'Malley, the Honorable Shauna Boliker, the Honorable Mary Margret Brosnahan, the Honorable Thomas Byrne, and more. All are sitting Circuit Court judges in Cook County. A number have expressed a willingness to potentially take on clerks from Chicago-Kent.
