March 3   Chicago Lawyers ACS Chapter:Obama Orders the Close of Guantanamo — What now?

Speaker: Marc Falkoff, lawyer for more than a dozen Guantanamo Bay prisoners.

Join us for a discussion of the international, legal, and national security implications of President Obama’s Executive Order to close Guantanamo Bay.

Mr. Falkoff is the principal lawyer in the habeas representation of more than a dozen prisoners being held by the U.S. military at Guantanamo Bay. Mr. Falkoff is also a Professor of Law at NIU and teaches courses in criminal law, criminal procedure, and the federal courts. For his work representing Guantanamo Prisoners, Mr. Falkoff, Along with other habeas counsel, received the Frederick Douglass Human Rights Award from the Southern Center for Human Rights in 2007. He writes and speaks frequently about rule of law issues in the context of the war on terror. He was also the editor for the book “Poems from Guantanamo: The Detainees Speak.”
