After December 6th, the CLS Board will begin to coordinate gift deliveries by contacting a few volunteers who indicated they were willing to deliver presents.

ADF Blackstone Summer Fellowship     (ATTENTION: 1L CLS Members)

The Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) is sponsoring an awesome Fellowship opportunity primarily for interested first year law students who are highly motivated and capable.  Applicants  compete for 20-30 available seats in each Fellowship class.  A limited number of upper level students may also be accepted.  The Blackstone Fellowship is a National Training Program for Future Leaders in Law and has three main objectives:

  1. Equip Christian law students to engage the legal culture with biblical and natural law principals
  2. Give law students confidence that the foundation of law upon which our country was established is rationally superior to any competing legal philosophy
  3. Profoundly influence Christian law students to take their training and knowledge into positions of influence where they can bring about needed change in America's legal system.
The program is an 11 week leadership development program in law and is divided into three phases:
  • Phase I:  Two weeks of lectures, seminars, and interactive discussions.  (Colorado:   June 4 -17th)
  • Phase II: Eight week assignment with various allied public interest law firms and individual attorneys on active litigation involving constitutional law.

  • (Various locations:  June 19 - Aug 4)
  • Phase III: One week of debriefing and further training (includes special session for prospective judicial law clerks).

  • (Texas:  Aug 5 - 12)
Funding:  There is no cost to students for participating in the program.  ADF pays some travel costs (for the study phase of the program).  In addition, fellows are paid a weekly stipend of $600/week by ADF to help defray living expenses during the summer.

The application package has more details regarding the fellowship.  The fellowship is for this coming summer and ADF must receive all applications by March 1, 2000You do not have to be a member of the National CLS Organization to apply.  However, if your Phase II assignment is with the National CLS Center for Law and Religious Freedom, you would likely need to join the National CLS Organization (membership is something they require of all their interns I believe).

The applications are extensive and so if you are sure you want to apply, you might want to pick up a copy to review over the Christmas break. Copies of the application will be available in the CLS office.  If you have questions or are interested in taking a look at the application package contact Ben Barr ( or Cynthia Ferguson ( .

Have a Blessed  Week!!
