"Death in Detention: Conditions in Immigrant Detention Centers"
Speaker: Mark Heller, Associate Director of Litigation at the National Immigrant Justice Center

Wednesday, Feb. 25th, 3-4pm, Room C20

Join us for a discussion of the conditions in immigrant detention centers and what is being done about the deplorable conditions and treatment of immigrants who are being held in detention.

At the National Immigrant Justice Center Mr. Heller focuses on litigating and developing federal district court litigation regarding immigrant detention conditions and detention procedures.  He serves on the Illinois Statewide Immigration Raids Response Steering Committee, was sent by NIJC to respond to the Laurel, Mississippi, worksite enforcement action, and is serving on national workgroups regarding immigration raids’ response and medical care to detained immigrants.  He is also working on federal and state Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and litigation regarding immigrant detention and local police enforcement of federal immigration law.

Lawyers in the Classroom Training

Wednesday, March 11th 5:30-6:45pm, Room C50

The Lawyers in the Classroom program is coordinated by the Constitutional Rights Foundation Chicago (CRFC).  The Lawyers in the Classroom program partners attorneys and law students with elementary and middle school classes to help students understand our legal system. CRFC will come to Kent to train law students and attorneys from the Latina Lawyers Committee on how to lead interactive lessons on the constitution.  CRFC will provide teaching materials and match teams of law students and lawyers with schools.
