January Trip
January 4- January 9, 2009

This coming January, we will take about 20 students to New Orleans to volunteer on projects related to hurricane recovery and social justice.

To secure your spot on the trip, you will need to submit a nonrefundable $25 deposit to Gwynne Kizer. Spots are available on a first come, first serve basis. The $25 deposit will be used to pay for transportation expenses.

Come to the meeting on November 5 to learn more about SHN and this trip. We will discuss possible placements, housing, carpooling and transportation issues, and what you should expect to get out of your week in New Orleans.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to email one of the SHN board members.

Leadership opportunity
We need a couple people to serve as Chicago-Kent representatives on the Student Hurricane Network’s Membership Calls. These calls are a great way to learn more about public interest and recovery work in the Gulf Coast. They are also an opportunity to make connections with students from across the country who are doing public interest work. In the past, some people who participated in these calls have found new ways to get involved with SHN. For example, some learned about internship and job opportunities in the Gulf Coast. Others have helped create or lead new projects in the Gulf Coast. Still others have gone on to join the Student Hurricane Network's National Advisory Board. Contact Gwynne at gkizer@kentlaw.edu if you'd like more information.
