What is the Public Interest Resource Center (PIRC)?
Place for everyone who is interested in volunteerism, public interest law, and pro bono work
Offers you a change to participate in various kinds of community service by helping you find legal and non-legal volunteer opportunities
Links you to non-profit organization and other public service projects in need of volunteers
Serves as a resource for everyone who is interested in pursuing an internship or future job placement in public interest law
Chicago-Kent Certificate of Service
The Certificate of Service is a certificate given by the Dean to students who complete 50 hours of volunteer work while in law school.
What is required? - Only 50 hours of volunteer work is required for the Certificate.
There is no time limit, you can accrue hours for as long as you are in school
Hours worked at different organization can be combined
Volunteer opportunities provided by student organizations, such as KJF, are included
How do I track my hours? - There are two ways to track your hours:
Pick up a volunteer time sheet in the PIRC and log your hours yourself; or
Email a student counselor after you volunteer and the PIRC will track your hours and inform you when you have volunteered 50 hours
Don't know where to volunteer? - Let us do the work for you. PIRC student counselors are available to help you find volunteer opportunities specifically tailored to your interests, time commitment and location.
Set up an appointment or come visit us in the PIRC office in Room 654 during our office hours
