Kent Justice Foundation
The public interest student organization at the Chicago-Kent College of Law
The Kent Justice Foundation (KJF) is the public interest student organization at the Chicago-Kent College of law. KJF is dedicated to:
Promotion of public interest law
Volunteerism
Pro bono work
KJF’s main program is its Summer Fellowship Program. KJF believes that students should not be kept from working in public interest jobs because of financial reasons; therefore, KJF awards fellowships to help aid students who are committed to taking unpaid/low-paying summer public interest jobs. Nearly 100% of KJF’s fundraising proceeds are put toward the Summer Fellowship Program. Fundraisers throughout the year include bake sales, t-shirt sales, a Fall Fundraiser and KJF’s Annual Spring Auction.
The KJF Annual Spring Auction is KJF’s largest fundraiser and one of the largest events at Chicago-Kent. For a small ticket price, attendees are treated to food and drink and the opportunity to bid on numerous auction packages. Auction packages included donations from area businesses, as well as Chicago-Kent professors, administration, and staff. Packages routinely include spa treatments, hotel stays, theatre and dinner packages, tickets to concert and sporting events, dinner with professors at their homes or a fine Chicago restaurant, and much more.
In addition, KJF sponsors opportunities for students to get involved in volunteer activities and learn about public interest opportunities. Volunteer events have included charity walks and runs, food and clothing drives, and fundraising and volunteer work with various non-profit organizations throughout Chicago. Even if your future plans do not include public service, KJF will allow you to volunteer and make a difference. Speaker events regarding public interest law are also sponsored by KJF. Events have included a panel of public interest organizations speaking about how a lawyer may obtain a public interest job or how they may perform pro bono work for the organizations, and a panel of Chicago-Kent students speaking about their summer public interest jobs, including advice on how to apply public interest jobs and fellowships.
