Upcoming Events

Meet the Public Service Employers Reception

On Wednesday, October 8th between 4:30 and 6:30, the Chicago Area Law School Consortium will be hosting a "Meet the Public Service Employers Reception" at Loyola University Chicago 25 East Pearson, 15th Floor, Kasbeer Hall in which students can learn about non-profit and government agency job opportunities. Just to let you know, KJF will likely organize a group of people to go over to Loyola that day. If you are interested in attending with our group, please contact Aaron Garland (agarland@kentlaw.edu).

Equal Justice Works Public Interest Conference & Career Fair

The Equal Justice Works Public Interest Conference & Career Fair is scheduled to occur on Thursday October 23 - Friday October 24th in D.C. Students can obtain the list of participating employers and register by going to www.equaljusticeworks.org. Chicago-Kent's Equal Justice Works Membership covers the registration fee of the fair for up to five students. Melanie Kushnir (mkushnir@kentlaw.edu), in the career services office, should be contacted if you would like to attend or if you have any questions. Also, KJF has received money from SBA to aid in paying one person to attend the Conference and Career Fair. If you plan on attending, please contact Aaron Garland (agarland@kentlaw.edu), so we can determine who receives the allocated money.

3rd Annual Fall Spaghetti Dinner

The 3rd Annual Spaghetti Dinner is currently being planned! This year, the event will be held in late October, and we will soon be announcing the date and time. All students, faculty, and staff are invited to have all you can eat spaghetti, salad, and desserts, as well as all you can drink soda and wine. You get all this for a small price, and proceeds of the fundraiser helps fund KJF Summer Fellowships.

There will be a planning meeting for this event on Monday, September 29 at 3 p.m. in Room C74. If you would like to help out and cannot attend, or if you have any other questions regarding the dinner, please contact Jessica Webb (jwebb@kentlaw.edu).

PUBLIC INTEREST LAW JOURNAL

Are you interested in writing about today's laws and how they effect the underrepresented? Do you want to participate in the creation of a Journal that brings together the political, economic and social realities of today?  If yes, this is the place to be.  Whether you want to write or edit, join us on this new venture. All ideas are welcome!  For more information or to get involved, contact Dan Rosen (drosen1@kentlaw.edu).

Speaker events

Information of Public Interest Law KJF will be co-sponsoring, with the career services office, an informational session about public interest law and employment resources in public interest law. This event will occur later in October. More information will be coming.

Summer Jobs KJF is also planning a panel of Chicago-Kent students speaking about their summer public interest jobs, their experiences, and how they found their job. A date has not been decided upon for this event. More information will come later.

Volunteer Opportunities

KJF will also be sponsoring various volunteer opportunities for Chicago-Kent students. Past events have included charity walks and runs, food and clothing drives, donate-a-phone project, and fundraising and volunteer work with various non-profit organizations throughout Chicago. Even if your future plans do not include public service, KJF will allow you to volunteer and make a difference.

Thank you! - Thank you to all those who attended our most recent volunteer opportunity this weekend. KJF helped ELS in a Beach Cleaning this past weekend.

13th Annual KJF Spring Auction

The KJF annual Spring Auction is KJFs largest fundraiser and one of the largest events at Chicago-Kent. Attendees are treated to free food and drink and the opportunity to bid on numerous auction packages. In previous years, auction packages have included spa treatments, hotel stays, theatre and dinner packages, tickets to concert and sporting events, and more. Professors also donate packages such as dinner at their homes or a fine Chicago restaurant, tickets to sporting events, or a movie night for them and a group of students. In recent years, the Spring Auction has raised between $15,000-$20,000, all going towards Summer Fellowships.

Planning for the 13th Annual KJF Spring Auction will begin later this semester. This event will require many volunteers to help in the planning. More information will come later.
