Rebuilding Deomcracy in Venezuela: A Conversation with Venezuelan Supreme Court Justice Vegas Torrealba, April 3 at 4pm in C20

The National Lawyers Guild and hosting professor Daniel Hamilton welcome Venezuelan Supreme Court Justice Fernando Ramon Vegas Torrealba.

His speaking tour is an opportunity for those in the United States to engage in a substantive discussion with a judicial expert on the significant democratic reforms occurring in Venezuela as a result of the new 1999 Constitution.

He will be providing audiences with a brief historical overview of Venezuela, a Constitutional Comparative analysis of democracy before 1999 and after, and the recently enacted laws helping rebuild democracy in the country. Justice Fernando Ramon Vegas Torrealba was appointed to the Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ) in August, 2004, and assumed office on January, 2005, where he sits in the Electoral Chamber of the TSJ. He earned his law degree at the Central University of Venezuela and a Masters Degree in the Laws of Economic Integration in 1977.

Justice Vegas Torrealba is an expert in commercial relations and has written and lectured extensively in this area. He helped to negotiate various international trade agreements with companies doing business in Venezuela. The Justice is a published novelist and writes regular columns for newspapers and journals.
