First General
Meeting
What we
covered in our Tuesday meeting:
Membership
Dues
This year,
membership dues are $15. Cash or checks made payable to WIL can be left
in the second floor mailbox for Women in Law. Please make sure to use an
envelope with your name on it. Membership dues are primarily used for our
mentorship program and also to hold social events.
Mentorship
Program
WIL’s
attorney-students mentorship program is accepting applications for
students looking for a practicing attorney to be her member. Applications can be obtained by
emailing wil@kentlaw.edu or picking up a
handout from the WIL Bulletin Board on the Concourse level starting on
Tuesday. Applications are due
back to WIL (in the 2nd floor mailbox) by September 19. The first cocktail hour with your
mentors will take place early in October. Only paid WIL members are eligible for this program, so
please make sure you get your dues returned to us.
Social
Event
WIL has
teamed up with the Labor and Employment Law Society to have a pub crawl. The pub crawl will take place on
Thursday, September 25. We will meet everyone in the Kent lobby at 6:30,
and the bus leaves promptly at 7:00. The list of bars will be out
soon.
If you
would like to buy a ticket, please leave cash or a check made payable to
LELS in the amount of $12 in the WIL mailbox. For each ticket we sell, we make $3, and therefore, we will
not need to do as much fundraising.
Please get your money in as soon as possible. Your $12 covers transportation costs,
and possibly some drink discounts.
Feminist
Discussion Group
This year,
we are having feminist reading discussion groups once a month. The first
reading can be picked up off the WIL bulletin board on the concourse
level after Tuesday or can be received by emailing WIL@kentlaw.edu. The first discussion group will meet Tuesday, September 23
at 12:00pm. It will be held in room
345. Feminists and non-feminists,
women and men, students and professors are all welcome to attend.
First
Year Board Positions Open
If you are
a first year student and interested in acting as a first year
representative, please email wil@kentlaw.edu.
Positions are open in all
sections (A,B,C, and Evening).
This is a position with minimal time commitment. You will be asked
to attend a board meeting once a month or so, and you will be asked to
announce or programs to your section and encourage other people’s
participation in WIL.
